Brief Overview of the Role
Our Food Industry Technical Professional Apprenticeship in partnership with Sheffield Hallam University strikes the ideal balance between going to university and starting a career. You will work within one of the country’s leading accredited Food Testing Laboratories working across several different departments including Chemistry, Microbiology, Operations, and Innovations.

BSc (Hons) Professional Practice in Food Technology
Level 6
Entry Level Requirements
- GCSE English Language & Maths Grade C (or 4) or above- evidence must be provided
- 96 UCAS points (equivalent to CCC grades at A level) or suitable work experience
- Minimum 30 hours per week employment contract
Duration
3.5 years (inc. EPA)
Block Release Split & Structure
Typically 3 day blocks
6 blocks in Year 1
5 blocks in Year 2
4 blocks in Year 3
Total release= 45 days over 3 years
Employment Start Date
University studies commence September 2023, work within the Laboratory/ Business can commence earlier, July onwards depending on the availability of the successful candidate.
Vacancy Description
You will carry out Food Testing methods as part of a laboratory team; the processes play an important role in the development of food and food safety.
As well as the training for laboratory-based tasks, the successful candidate will also help provide all the required support to enable the laboratory to function effectively (administration and housekeeping), whilst following company procedures and health and safety guidelines.
Key Responsibilities
Sample throughput.
Ensuring completion of relevant paperwork.
Liaising with Senior Grades to ensure samples are processed on time.
Assisting in training of staff.
Ensuring that the quality standards of the laboratory are met on an ongoing basis.
Being aware of site security and safety, securing of the premises where and when required.
